Practice What to Say When They Say…

Baru aja baca buku Parent Talk! : The Art of Effective Communication With the School & Your Child. Salah satunya tentang membaca. Ini cuplikannya:

YOUR CHILD:

“I hate reading!
I’d rather watch TV or
play with my friends.
Why do you make me
read every night?”

WHAT TO SAY:
“Reading every night is important. Books can be like a
best friend, always there for you, ready to entertain you,
help your imagination, teach you new information, and
even increase your writing skills. Would it help if I read
with you or even next to you? Let’s set time aside every
day for family reading time. I can catch up on my
favorite book or the newspaper and you can read
something that interests you. When would you like to go
to the library together so we both can find books we
like? We can then share and talk about them.”
OR
“Reading is very important, for lots of reasons. First, the
more you read, the smarter you get—and being a good
reader helps you in all your other subjects. Books can
be good friends, too, always there when you want to be
entertained; they can take you away to other places or
back in time or introduce you to famous people. I love
to read, so why don’t we set aside some family reading
time each day when we can read together. Would you
like to go to the library together so we both can find
books we like? Or maybe you’d like to read some
magazines about your favorite hobbies? We can talk
about what we’ve read with each other.”

Very very inspiring. Terkadang kita memang butuh sesuatu yang aplikatif model gini dibandingkan hanya sekedar teori.

Real Woman

Real Women are classy, strong, independent, loyal and lovable. One thing about them is they know they deserve better.

Just because her eyes don't tear doesn't mean her heart doesn't cry. Just because she comes off strong doesn't mean there's nothing wrong.

For her, sometimes there is no next time, no timeouts, no second chances, sometimes it's now or never. If SHE truly loves someone, then the only thing SHE wants is for them to be happy, even if its NEVER with her.

OXYMORON: I Am Clearly Confused

Oxymoron! What a strange word!
An oxymoron describes a combination of two contradictory words. The words derives from the Greek word 'Oxus' (sharp) and 'Moris' (stupid). We hear these combinations all the time and we understand them, too. But if we stop to think about them seriously, they are really quite weird.
For example: "That hound dog is pretty ugly." How can something be pretty and ugly at the same time? Can you explain these oxymorons?

- The plant is growing smaller. (I thought growing means getting larger)
- My fav flavor is bittersweet. (Make up your mind!)
- Do you like jumbo shrimp? (what size do you mean-jumbo or shrimp?)
- I would like a hot ice tea. (You must be kidding me. Do you want it hot or cold?)
- That was a cruel kindness.
- It was a living death.
- Let's pig out moderately.
- The two of them are friendly enemies.
- It was a peaceful war.
- He is a little giant.

Can you think of an oxymoron which you have heard? make up an oxymoron...

xoxo

'School is as a Waiting Game’

School is as a waiting game,
waiting,
waiting for the time when the game has
gone for long enough
and I will play my own game
with no waiting, waiting,
except for waiting for
tomorrow, which will be filled
with excitement and decisions, ideas and
anything, anything except waiting, waiting
as there will be nothing to
wait for, as the waiting game will have
ended, and a new game begun, begun.

THE BOY IN THE STRIPPED PAJAMAS

Childhood is measured out by sounds and smeels and sights, before the dark hour of reason grows.
John Betntjemen

Quote pembuka yang mengawali film The Boy in The Stripped Pajamas (TBTSP). Visualisasi awal film cukup membuat bayangan awal saya terkuatkan (awal pemandangan indah, ¾ bagian film pemandangannya ‘suram’). Termehek-mehek deh lihat akhirnya duh(bagian termehek2nya sih sama aja dengan Life Is Beautifull)

PS:
  • Akting polos dan wajah lugu pemeran Shmuel bikin jatuh hati
  • Seneng denger lagu kebangsaan Jerman versi piano asli, biasanya denger kalo pembalap atau kesebelasan jerman menang pertandingan doang haha.
  • Music composernya James Horner (penting gak ya? Gak tau deh, tapi suka aja)
